What is DRM? Or what is WMA without DRM?

WMA files can have DRM protection. In this case the file
content is encrypted with a key. For playback and decoding
it is necessary to have DRM license files on your computer.
DRM license can limit your rights for using these functions.
For instance, it can allow only playback and prohibit conversion
into other formats. This mechanism was developed by Microsoft
corp. for copyright protection. WMA
Encoder Decoder allows decoding only files without DRM
protection into unprotected PCM format as specified in
the WMFSDK End User License Agreement.
Attention!
Microsoft(R) Windows Media Player v.7 or later version allows
to convert Audio CD into WMA format. However, output files
will by default have DRM protection. If reinstalling
Windows without making DRM keys backup, these files will be
unusable for playback or decoding. Therefore we recommend
switching off "Use personal right management" option
in Windows Media Player and using it only in the cases when
it is really necessary.
