What does it mean "Supported MP3 ACM driver not found" and how do I fix it?

This problem is what happens to most of our customers. For example, when you
either update or (re)install Windows Media Player. If using the default settings,
it replaces one of the key for MP3 encoding system files - L3codeca.acm
with the one that is being distributed by Microsoft.
If you're running:
- Windows 98/ME
- it's located in: %system root% (Windows - by default) \system\
- Windows NT/2000
- it's located in: %system root% (Winnt - by default) \system32\
- Windows XP
- it's located in: %system root% (Windows - by default) \system32\
If L3codeca.acm is replaced with another one, then, when started, our software
will try to copy the file, which is needed for its proper operation. But sometimes,
especially after recent running of any program that uses MP3 ACM driver, system
locks L3codeca.acm file for direct access. That means our software will not
be able to replace it automatically. You need to restart the computer and then
run our software again to replace incorrect MP3 ACM driver (L3codeca.acm) with
the proper one. After that you should be asked to restart the computer again
to apply the change.
You can also locate this file in the folder where you've installed our
software. You may copy it manually to the system(32) directory
(depending on the Operating System - see above), restart the computer,
run our software and set all Stereo Modes to stereo - you're ready to
proceed.
Finally, check the options in Tools menu of Windows Media Player
(version 7 and higher only) - there's an option on the first page (Player)
- Automatic Updates - see for yourself what option is the best for you,
but keep in mind, there's no need to update it "once a day" (especially with
the permanent connection to the Internet) - that's when you'd need to reinstall
ACM diver (L3codeca.acm) all the time to make our software work properly!!!
Note: We're currently working on improvement in this particular area
and pretty soon all the programs will be updated to ease the procedure of updating
ACM driver.
